Refined Porcelain Patio and Lawn Garden for a Terraced Property

This project focused on creating a clean, practical, and visually balanced garden for a modern terraced home. The existing outdoor space lacked structure and usable flow, with uneven finishes and no clear relationship between the hard landscaping and lawn areas. The homeowners wanted a low-maintenance garden that felt tidy, modern, and easy to live with, while still complementing the brickwork and proportions of the property.

The aim was not to overcomplicate the design, but to refine it. By introducing high-quality porcelain paving, sharp detailing, and a simple lawn layout, the garden now feels calm, organised, and far more usable throughout the year.

We began by carefully setting out the layout to establish strong, simple geometry. The patio was positioned to maximise usable space directly outside the house, creating a practical area for seating and day-to-day use. Large-format porcelain paving was selected for its durability, slip resistance, and contemporary appearance, particularly well suited to Bolton’s climate.

A darker contrasting border was introduced to frame the paving and lawn areas, adding definition and helping guide the eye through the space. This edging also provides a clean, durable separation between surfaces, preventing movement and maintaining crisp lines over time.

The lawn was re-laid with a clear, rectangular form to reinforce the structured feel of the garden. By keeping the planting and features minimal, the space feels larger, more open, and easier to maintain. Levels were carefully managed to ensure smooth transitions and effective drainage, with falls set subtly into the paving to prevent surface water pooling.

Attention to detail was critical throughout the build. Precise cuts, consistent joint lines, and clean edges ensure the finished garden feels considered and professionally executed rather than rushed or pieced together.
